How do you apply for Florida homestead?

To apply for Florida homestead, you must complete and submit a form DR-501. You can find the form online at your county’s property appraiser’s website or the Florida Department of Revenue’s website. On your county’s property appraiser’s website, you should also find instructions for where to submit the application.

Keep in mind that your property must satisfy the eligibility requirements for Florida homestead. The property needs to (1) be your permanent residence or the permanent residence of someone you can claim as a dependent on your taxes, (2) you must have owned and lived in the property on January 1 of the tax year you are claiming homestead, and (3) you cannot have rented the property more than 30 days in a calendar year.

If you have any issues applying for homestead or have further questions about eligibility, contact the property appraiser in the county where the property is located.
